third time’s a charm, isn’t it?
did the chase give you the thrill?
did the thrill sizzle out after 5 months?
i did not wish it was you, but you were there
starry-eyed, with the flowers and the grandeur gesture
i told you things i did not want to admit to anybody else, and i asked “am i too much?”
then you, you and your deceptive solace
i met you halfway, met you all the way
“is this settling? or is this compromising?”
got me questioning myself,
was it the guilt?
i was just returning the favor, wasn’t i?
“is this what i actually deserve?”
so i said “fuck it, i’d do it anyway”
because i drove home crying and backslid behind your back
i wanted it to be true, i wanted to do it right
but you put me on the pedestal just to degrade me
i walked on eggshells with the shoes you bought me
i still look back with bitterness, i do
because i told you things i did not want to admit to anybody else
now that i write this, take my book with you, i’ll take the trickery with me
